BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Del Taco restaurant on California Avenue is closing. According to an employee, the owners of the building decided to turn it into something else. The building sits on a lot that also has gas pumps, which will remain.
Fortunately, current employees will not lose their jobs. They will be moved to locations downtown and on Ming Avenue.
According the Del Taco website, "Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson opened the first Del Taco in Yermo, CA in 1964. With a menu of 19¢ tacos, tostadas, fries and 24¢ cheeseburgers, Del Taco brought in $169 in sales on its first day in business - the equivalent of 900 tacos."
Del Taco operates in 15 states and has over 560 locations.
