Starting this fall, there will be Roadrunners on ice. CSU Bakersfield is forming its own men's club hockey team to compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

Their first game is set to be on Sunday, October 7th at the Rabobank Arena against Fresno State.

The Roadrunners team will be made up mostly of former players from the Bakersfield Dragons and Junior Condors hockey teams.

During the first year, the team can have players enrolled at CSUB and Bakersfield College, but in the second year, they must all be students at the university.

Coach Bob St. Louis tells 23ABC that they need sponsors of the program, and the ACHA is currently working on a schedule for the 'Runners.

This is not an official Roadrunners sport at this time. At last check, the ACHA has 18 club teams in California, including USC, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara and Fresno State.

The association released a statement to 23ABC that read in part, "Bakersfield is a proven hockey town in a non-traditional market and the ACHA has great expectations for the Roadrunners. We wish them well and look forward to following CSUB hockey in its first season at the Men's Division II level."
