BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Cotton Candy Grapes, it's a unique, sweet and plump grape that brings back the memories of the county fair.
The popular flavor variety of grapes has been on the market for seven years, and this year the local company Grapery, made a significant expansion.
Jim Beagle, CEO, and Co-owner of Grapery said the company is doubling in volume the amount of Cotton Candy Grapes to meet the rising demand.
There are plans for an even larger expansion in the next few years, but the process is not simple.
"It's really a tricky grape to grow, it's difficult to pick at the peak maturity with the best cotton candy flavor," Beagle said.
The bags of this particular sweet treat are flying off of local stores' shelves. Amanda Landon, Customer Service Representative of Sully's Kitchen in Northwest Bakersfield said the stores received calls about the fruit a month ago.
There's still time left to taste the sweet treat. The Cotton Candy Grapes are now in stores until September 20th at various locations in the county. To check out the list of locations, click here.
