Bakersfield CHP issued 54 citations for crosswalk and pedestrian violations today during a Pedestrian Enforcement and Education Detail.
CHP was stationed at Niles St. and Webster St. in East Bakersfield and at Roberts Lane and Plymouth Avenue in Oildale. Officers dressed in plain clothes would cross the street while uniformed officers would monitor the crosswalk for motorists and pedestrians who failed to yield to right-of-way.
CHP issued 54 citations and five verbal warnings. According to CHP, the purpose of the detail was to reduce the number of pedestrians struck by vehicles in crosswalks as well as to reduce the severity of crashes involving pedestrians.
