BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — One person is dead after a car was struck by a train in East Bakersfield.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a silver Nissan was traveling eastbound on Edison Highway at around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning. The car attempted to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and veered onto the shoulder and onto the railroad tracks. A BNSF train also traveling eastbound struck the car.
Both people in the car were ejected by the collision. A man was confirmed dead. A woman suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
