A community block party was held today at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Bakersfield on Sunday, bringing families to play games and enjoy some grub.
Sunday's event was the church's last block party of the summer, inviting community members from northeast Bakersfield to join the fun.
Organizers say the event was all about meeting people and showing love to the community.
It featured hot dogs, water games, and a water slide. The free event also saw members of the community getting together for a prayer.
"You know what, this is a rougher neighborhood, and our surrounding neighborhood. This church is going through a transition and we want to reach this neighborhood that's around us," said Joshua Beierschmitt, a pastor in training at the church.
Beierschmitt says its important for kids to experience the fun of being a kid, and that the church will also begin doing street ministry in the future.
