A Bakersfield Police Department patrol car was involved in a car crash in downtown Bakersfield late Tuesday night.
It happened just before 11 p.m. in the area of 24th and F streets.
According to witnesses who spoke to 23ABC, the police car ran a red light and crashed into another car that was going through a green light.
Witnesses also say both the police officer and the driver of the other car were seen getting out of their cars. The extent of their injuries is not known.
On Wednesday, BPD officials said a preliminary investigation has revealed that the officer entered the intersection against a red-light at which time he was struck by the other driver.
BPD said that the officer has been released from the hospital but there is no update on the driver of the other car.
