Bakersfield physician still waiting patiently for new kidney, more than a year after his story aired

Dr. Larry Yokoyama has one kidney, that's failing
Posted

The call went out in May of 2016.

Dr. Larry Yokoyama needed a kidney.

He lost the use of his left kidney following surgery to remove a large kidney stone in 2000.

The right kidney has been failing for years.

Dozens of people came to assist him, looking up information on being a donor at Cedar Sinai Medical Center.

The top three candidates went through a battery of tests over several months, but in the end, he still didn't find a match.

Now, more than a year later, he's still waiting, confident that the organ and the person who is willing to help save his life, is out there.

If you'd like to help, you can call Kim at 333-3232 or the Cedar Sinai Transplant Center, (310) 423-3281.
