The Bakersfield Historic Preservation Commission says the Dome should not be demolished because it is a piece of history.

The letter, which was sent on August 30, says the Dome's architecture and history has significantly impacted Bakersfield history and culture. The Commission urges owners to consider reusing the space and keeping the architecture intact instead of demolishing the building. 

The Dome was sold to Geo Group in early July. The space will then be used to expand the Mesa Verde ICE processing center.
