Fatal car crash in Southwest Bakersfield, car collides with traffic signal pole

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A car crash in Southwest Bakersfield on Thursday left one person deceased and sent another to the hospital.

According to Bakersfield Police, a gray sedan drove into a light pole at Old River Road and White Lane just after 4 p.m. Police say the Buck Lacrosse was traveling southbound on Old River Road, north of White Lane when they struck a curb, causing the car to lose a tire.

The car continued through the intersection, left the roadway and struck a traffic signal pole. According to Bakersfield Police, an adult female passenger sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the adult male driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

BPD says sit is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in the crash. The cause of the crash also remains under investigation.

The identity of the passenger will be released by the Kern County Coroner at a later time.
