The first day of school is right around the corner and the Kern County Public Health Department is making sure your child has a healthy school school year.
The Department was holding its annual back to school immunization clinic for children at the Veteran's Memorial Building in East Bakersfield.
According to a public health nurse, this clinic is necessary for most students going back to school.
"Children entering kindergarten through seventh grade need booster doses of vaccine, especially the whooping cough which is around and circulating in our community all the time. So that’s why it’s important and it just prevents kids from getting diseases that are vaccine preventable,” said Ann Walker.
The only paperwork you need to bring is the child's insurance card and immunization records. If the student is not with the parent, they will need to bring a note, an ID from the parent, or any kind of paperwork that proves the student can receive the department's services.
The department says they take most insurance providers, but if the child does not have insurance, the fee will be $9 per shot.
The department will continue to offer these low-cost services next week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. And on Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Building.
The department says that no appointment is required.
