El Grito de Dolores Independence Day Celebration happening this weekend

El Grito de Dolores Independence Day Celebration
Saturday, September 14 from 7 p.m. - 11 p.m.

The Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is preparing to celebrate Mexico's independence day with an event this weekend. El Grito de Dolores Independence Day Celebration is happening on Sunday at the Liberty Bell in downtown Bakersfield. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce says there will be vendors, refreshments, a beer garden, and live entertainment. The event is happening on Sunday from 7 until 11 p.m. at the Liberty Bell.


Brookdale Senior Living Car Show
Saturday, September 14 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Attend a classic car show at the Brookdale Senior Living facility where you get to be the judge! The show will be judged by participants as well as the residents of the retirement village, with ages from 55 to 85. There will also be gifts and raffle prizes with all proceeds going to Alzheimer's research. Free coffee and donuts in the morning and hot dogs at noon. The Brookdale Senior Living facility is located at 350 Calloway Dr in Bakersfield.


AKSC Family Fresh Market
Saturday, September 14 from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

If your looking to fill up your pantry with some fresh fruits and vegetables, you are in luck! The 2nd Saturday Family Fresh Market is taking place at the American Kids Sports Center Southwest at 4401 Ride St. this Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. The Family Market has everything from local coffee, locally raised beef, vegan treats, food trucks, wood work, home decor, accessories, toys & more! Most importantly a FREE AKSC sporting experience for the kids!


Teen Challenge fundraisers coming up

Kern County Teen Challenge 7th Annual 5K For Recovery
Saturday, September 14 from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.

National Recovery Month is a national observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life. Teen Challenge has been on the front lines of helping those who have life-controlling problems in Kern County for 50 Years. The 5K Run/Walk for Recovery is along the Kern River Park Way that will start and finish at The Park at River Walk. Registration is $25 per person or $100 for a family. Each registration participant will receive a complimentary t-shirt, race bib and a participation medal. Packet pick-up will be held on September 13th from 3-8 p.m. at Sole 2 Soul Sports, 9000 Ming Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93311. Check-in September 14th starts at 8 a.m., and the first, second and third place finishers in each division both male and female. All winners will be awarded a medal at the awards ceremony after the race has been completed.


Bakersfield Country Music Museum Presents Marc Madewell
Sunday, September 15 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Marc Madwell, born and raised in Bakersfield, CA, discovered his desire to sing at an early age. While watching his father perform, Marc dreamed about when he would get his chance to entertain an audience with his unique sound. Madewell cut his teeth on singers such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings and is Bakersfield through and through. Later he discovered his passion for not only singing but writing songs. Come out to here him perform live at the Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame.
