BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Jakara Movement is relaunching its 2020 Census efforts with a Census Caravan through community neighborhoods of Kern on June 20.
Jakara Movement volunteers and youth will be driving through the neighborhoods in Bakersfield, Delano, and Porterville encouraging community members to partake in the Census with music, Census facts, and enthusiasm.
Every 10 years, the Census becomes a powerful tool to determine the future of our cities, counties, state, and country.
The Census determines everything from the sidewalks and lampposts in our neighborhoods to local school funding and veteran affairs funding, to the amount of seats each state is allocated in the House of Representatives and Electoral College.
Due to COVID-19, in-person canvassing efforts were halted.
The Census Caravan is a creative means to inspire residents and get Census facts to local residents while maintaining safe distances.
Residents have until October 31 to complete the Census themselves at my2020census.gov, by phone or mail.
Jakara Movement's Kern Census Caravan will begin June 20 at 4 a.m.
