Local tutoring program looking to hire ahead of the school year

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — If you are a tutor looking for a job you can help students stay ahead on distance learning, Kern Tutoring is looking for elementary and high school level tutors.

"We need staff members that can work with high school and elementary students and advance high school students," said Gustavo Luna, owner of Kern Tutoring here in Bakersfield.

The month of August will be especially busy this year for Kern Tutoring, as they've seen a spike in demand since local school districts decided on distance learning for the fall semester.

"They understand their child will be doing distance learning and there are barriers for teachers teaching virtually so they want to supplement they want to make sure their child is getting the individual attention that some students need."

Kern Tutoring is looking to hire tutors during the month of August ahead of the school year, specifically for elementary and high school level studies.

"The demand will probably be high for pre-calculus, calculus, and geometry so we are really looking for those people with a bachelor's degree in math, chemistry, or teachers who have experience with elementary so kinder, first, second, and third."

The company says they will continue in-person and virtual tutoring.

"We are continuing to provide in-person tutoring for those that want to come in. We are strict on regulations and requirements and we are following the recommendations of the public health department and adding to that. We will service one or two students here at a time. But most of our services will be provided via zoom."

If you are interested in applying to be a tutor for Kern Tutoring, they are looking for applicants with a bachelor's degree in the subject they're interested in teaching as well as a passed background check.

"We require all of our staff to pass a background, tuberculosis clearing, and training with us so anything a school district would require that is exactly what we would require."
