The Kern County Superintendent of Schools Office has called it the largest gathering of district recruiters in one location.” Well this year the location’s online. here’s what they’re looking for:

“We can all think of a teacher or a mentor that has made a difference in our lives and that’s what teachers do,” Tania Schalburg-Dykes, the Coordinator of the Teacher Development Program at KCSOS said. “The right teacher made all the difference. And we’re looking for candidates who really care.”

So far, 31 OF 48 school districts will be in attendance. Schalburg-Dykes said districts in their “virtual booths” will await multiple subjects, special education, speech pathologist, single subject credential and even substitute teacher candidates.

Schalburg-Dykes said there are different credentials required depending on the positions, but for those switching careers to education, there’s an alternative opportunity to become a teacher, including intern-credential candidates and residency candidates. she adds all are welcome at the fair.

“They really bring the real-world into the content,” she said. “The intern-credential program is a way that second career candidates can remain in their current job and not miss a step as they move into the teaching profession.”

They’re also looking for career technical education teachers. The job requires a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in a specific field.

“The focus is in skilled trades and applied sciences, modern technologies and all kinds of career preparation,” Schalburg-Dykes said. “Teachers who teach career technology education have a deep level of experience in the field. And are able to bring that industry directly to the children.”

Schalburg-Dykes added that the California Commission of Teacher Credentialing details what the specific credentials are for each job.

The virtual job fairtakes place on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Job seekers must sign up ahead of time. Schalburg-Dykes said even if a candidate does not have an interview on the day of the event, recruiters will be able to download their resume post-event.
