EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (KERO) — A U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress crashed at Edwards Air Force Base shortly after takeoff Monday morning.

According to the Air Force base, eight people were on board the B-52, and that "initial indications are that the crash was not survivable."

The incident occurred at 11:20 a.m. on the Edwards airfield.

The airfield has been closed and inbound aircraft are being redirected, according to EAFB. All non-commercial visitor passes have also been suspended until further notice.

Emergency response teams are on scene, and officials are working to account for those involved.
