BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted the 9th Annual El Grito de Dolores Celebration in honor of Hispanic Latino Heritage Month on Tuesday also commemorating the 210th year of Mexican Independence.
The event was held Tuesday night in front of the Liberty Bell here in Bakersfield and presented virtually on Telemundo for the rest of the community to watch.
El Grito stands for "the cry of independence" which was uttered on Sept. 16, 1810, 210 years ago during the Mexican War of Independence.
El Grito is usually celebrated the night of Sept. 15 and all day on Sept. 16.
