(KERO) — Having more “good” cholesterol in your body may protect your brain.

Researchers from the Keck School of Medicine of USC discovered that higher levels of HDL cholesterol show a link to better brain health in older adults and more protection against Alzheimer’s.

Scientists say good cholesterol also appears to prevent inflammation in the barrier that separates the brain and blood system.

Inflammation in this region is a key sign of cognitive decline.
