BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — If you're looking to change your eating habits this year, there are several options to help you eat green this year.

"Working moms, working dads, just in general, even if we don't have children. We're just busier." Jenna Hand, the kitchen manager at Modern Grub said.

In today's age of working full-time, taking care of children and other tasks can often get in the way of eating clean.

Modern Grub is a local meal prep service that hopes to bridge the gap for those who do not have the time to cook.

Chelsey Hall, the owner of Modern Grub said she had a hard time finding the balance of eating enough while working and taking care of her children. Hall adds that it is important to monitor your calorie intake.

"We just tell everybody to focus on the plant, have a good lean protein in there and watch your sauces and dressings," said Hall.

Whether you would like to meal prep or choose to cook your food, there are weekly farmer markets around Kern County that offer affordable produce.

"A lot of farmers do it by weight or by basket. We definitely keep it affordable," Lexy Carroll, a manager of several local farmer markets said. "You are getting local and for the most part organic produce."

There are multiple farmer markets hosted each week. The Brimhall Farmer's Market is every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. located in the Brimhall Square Shopping Center. In addition to the Haggin Oaks, Farmer's Market is every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. located at Kaiser Permanente, on Ming Ave and Haggin Oaks Blvd.

If you are interested in the meal prep service, Modern Grub is located at 1100 Calloway Drive in Northwest Bakersfield.
