The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is out with data showing that more than a third of adults are obese in nine states. That's at least 35 percent of adults in Alabama, Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, and West Virginia.
The data references obesity rates in 2018. At 39.5 percent Mississippi and West Virginia had the highest prevalence of adult obesity. Colorado had the lowest at 23 percent.
By region, the South and Midwest were found to have the highest percentages, with the lowest occurring in the Northeast and West.
California's obesity rate was at about 26 percent, which was in the bottom five lowest rates.
