BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — This week marks National Teen Driver Safety Week, and before your teen gets behind the wheel AAA has recommended a few tips.

With more teen drivers hitting the road, AAA recommends minimizing the risk of a crash to remember to 'R.E.A.D the road'.

The acronym reminds new drivers to monitor the speed limit and drive the right speed for the current weather condition. Then to scan the road when driving to remain focused on driving. While also anticipating other drivers' next move. Lastly, to keep a donut around the vehicle, in the front and sides.

According to the press release, in California, teen motor vehicle fatalities increased. In 2015, there were 219 teen motor vehicle fatalities compared to 225 reported in 2016.
