ELECTION UPDATE: Mayoral races for Arvin, Cal City and Ridgecrest

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Several cities throughout Kern County are in the midst of mayoral races, including Arvin, California City, and Ridgecrest.

In the City of Arvin, council member Olivia Trujillo pulling ahead with 58% of the votes, compared to incumbent Jose Gurrola's 42%.

The Arvin mayoral seat carries a four-year term and the candidates might already look familiar to many in the city. Trujillo said her platform will focus on more businesses, more jobs, and public safety.

In the California City mayoral race, five candidates were vying for the position. As of Wednesday morning, Jeanie O'Laughlin was ahead with 38% of the vote, followed by Nicolas Lessenevitch with 29% of the vote.

For the City of Ridgecrest, Eric Bruen, CEO of Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union, is leading the race with 40% of the vote. Bruen says his platform revolves around removing "divisiveness and bring unity back to our community.” He is followed by Ridgecrest City Council as mayor pro tem Lindsey Stephens with 29% of the vote.
