Remains identified as California City man missing since 2017

CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. (KERO) — Remains found in Cantil on November 17th have been identified as those of a California City man that was reported missing in 2017.

According to the California City Police Department, KCSO deputies found human remains in a remote area of Cantil on November 17th. Dental records were used to identify the remains as those of Phillip "Pete" Hammond, who was reported missing in July 2017. His disappearance was considered "suspicious" at the time.

The case is being considered a homicide investigation and is being handled by the California City Police Department.
