Family of eight survives freeway shooting on Highway 58 overnight

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A family of eight is breathing a sigh of relief this morning after surviving a shooting on eastbound SR-58 early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to CHP, at 5 a.m., officers responded to a call of a freeway shooting on eastbound SR-58, east of Mount Vernon Avenue. The victims in a Chevrolet Tahoe had exited at Oswell Street and called 911.

When officers arrived on scene, there were two bullet holes in the car. The victim vehicle was occupied by a family of eight individuals, according to CHP, none of the community members in the car were injured in the shooting.

The suspect vehicle was described as possibly a green Hyundai sedan, which was last seen exiting SR-58 eastbound then reentering SR-58 westbound from Oswell Street.

There were no description of the suspects.

The Bakersifeld CHP Area is investigating the incident.
