Victim in fatal Lamont shooting was pregnant, family speaks out

The Kern County Sheriff's Office announced Monday morning that a woman killed in a fatal shooting in Lamont was pregnant.

The incident started at around 8:30 p.m Sunday night when sheriff deputies went to a home on Florence Street in Lamont on reports of a shooting. They reportedly found 34-year-old Audreyanna Diana Rivera with a gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

The KCSO confirmed that Rivera was seven months pregnant. That child is currently being treated at the hospital

A short time after an Amber Alert was issued for a missing 2-year-old boy from the same area. According to the alert, Elias Vidal was reportedly taken by his father, 36-year-old Javier Vidal. Elias was located safely just after 11 pm.

KCSO confirmed to 23ABC that the woman who was shot and killed in Lamont was the boy's mother.

Javier Vidal was later located in the 2900 block of Taft Highway off Wible Road. Shortly after gunfire was exchanged between Vidal and law enforcement.

"The SWAT Team responded, and over the period of a few hours, gunfire was exchanged. Ultimately, the suspect was declared deceased at the scene at about 4 a.m.," according to the KCSO.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
