BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The man who was shot and killed after approaching deputies while armed has been identified.

27-year-old Heriberto Rodriguez was shot by Kern County Sheriff Deputies Saturday around 6 p.m. in the 1000 block of Water Street in East Bakersfield. The coroner has ruled Rodriguez's death a homicide.

KCSO said they received a domestic disturbance call just after 5 p.m. but the call was disconnected. When deputies arrived at the location, Rodriguez opened the door armed and would not listen to commands, according to KCSO officials. Rodriguez approached the deputies who then opened fire.

One deputy was injured with a laceration to the head. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
