BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department arrested 28-year-old Anthony Brennan Herrera Tuesday morning on suspicion of residential burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse following the attack of an elderly woman in Central Bakersfield.
According to BPD, jut after 5 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Hubbard and Spruce streets, officers responded to reports of a residential burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they discovered an 85-year-old woman suffering from a laceration to the head and injuries consistent with battery.
BPD said the woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Further investigation showed Herrera allegedly entered the woman's home through a ground floor window while the victim and another resident were sleeping.
