BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s help finding a man wanted in connection with the death of an 8-year-old girl.

According to BPD, 38-year-old Clint Mason is suspected of involvement in the girl's death on Wednesday morning. A warrant to arrest Mason for murder has been issued.

BPD said officers were called out around 5:44 a.m. to an apartment on Sand Dimas Street after receiving a report of an 8-year-old girl not breathing. Officers arrived and found the child had obvious signs of trauma. She was transported to the hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.

Mason is described as a Black man, standing 6-foot, 2-inches tall and weighs around 235 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and walks with a limp due to a pre-existing injury.

Mason was last seen on foot in the area of the homicide and does not currently have a vehicle. BPD said he has family in the Los Angeles area and may be attempting to return there.
