What's Open: Live updates about local businesses continuing services during the coronavirus

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — As schools and companies throughout the state close due to the coronavirus, local businesses are doing what they can to remain open and serve the community.

23ABC has compiled a list of local restaurants and shops that are doing what the can during these trying times.

*This list is continually updating as we find more and more places staying open*


White Forest Nursery, located on 300 Morning Drive, is inviting the community to use their gardens during the coronavirus pandemic, provided everyone practive social distancing.

The nursery said it is open Sunday through Tuesday and Thursday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"With hourly sanitation of public surfaces and 5 acres of open-air, the nursery is a very safe place to shop," nursery officials said.

Starting this week they will also be giving away free seed packets to kids from Friday through Tuesday to help kids keep learning while at home.


Studio Movie Grill said it is trying new ways to serve its community starting this week. Although the theaters are closed, the company said the grills will open.

According to a release, customers can now order curbside pickup from select SMG locations between the hours of 11a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Orders are available for curbside pickup at the Bakersfield location and can be placed over the phone by calling 661-535-2292 (PRESS 3) or online.

SMG will be offering a special menu of comfort foods and fan favorites including Coconut Chicken Tenders, BBQ Glazed Chicken Pizza, Pretzel Bites, and Chocolate Beignets. Bottled beer and wine will also be available to go. Credit card payments only.


Panini Kabob Grill, 3111 Ming Ave. Ste. 470, is offering curbside pickup and delivery amid COVID-19 closures


Cowboy Chicken has quickly responded to provide additional safe options for its guests during the COVID-19 crisis. In a matter of days, the fast casual chain launched new curbside service allowing guests to pick up a meal in minutes without leaving the comfort and safety of their cars. This service is in addition to the already popular in-house delivery program and Pronto Pick-Up.








A clearly better pool service is open for business, hours are 8:00 to 5:00.

Starting Sunday, March 22, Best Buy stores will offer "contactless curbside service." This means shoppers will no longer go into stores. Any items ordered on bestbuy.com of the store's app will delivered to your vehicle curbside.

Bakersfield's Best Buy store is located at 8300 Rosedale Avenue.

Denny's, 4440 Gosford Road, will remain open and has set up a drive-thru service. Starting March 21, this service will be available.


Caesar’s Deli at 9500 Brimhall Road will remain open for take out, curbside service and delivery.

Texas Roadhouse is making it easier than ever for guests to enjoy their favorite hand-cut steaks and fall-off-the-bone ribs. Effective immediately, Bakersfield’s Texas Roadhouse, at 3203 Ming Avenue, will provide Curbside To-Go service, which allows guests to pick up food, without leaving their car. Orders can be placed online, through the website or app, or by phone.


Various Wing Stop locations will still be open. The following Wing Stop locations will continue to operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

They will be offering a special giving 15% off for all veterans and medical professionals.


Thousands of people in critical job sectors and those in need of essential goods and services will still be driving on I-5. Those exempt workers and community members still can shop for key goods at the Tejon Ranch Commerce Center (TRCC). Remaining open for business, travelers can stop and refuel at one of the three stations or grab food to go (only) at one of the numerous eateries just off of I-5 at the 219-A exit. Of course, TRCC is taking every precaution possible to keep employees and customers safe during this time of need.


Donna Kayes Cafe, 212 Oak St. is open from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. for curbside pick up. The cafe offers delivery from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.


Houchin Community Blood Bank is an essential community service and will remain open. These are ever-changing, unfamiliar times. However, the community still relies on us to provide a safe blood supply for those patients in need. Our donor centers will remain open and our mobile blood drives will operate as long as we are allowed to. For your convenience, Houchin's Bolthouse Donor Center will be open an extra day this week-end on Sunday, March 22nd from 9 am to 2 pm, to ensure an adequate blood inventory for our hospitals.


Renae's Cafe located at 7737 Meany Ave is open for deliveries and curbside to-go.

Conroy's Bakersfield 1800Flowers will remain open offering full service for all occasions including funerals, birthdays, get well and just because.

Conroy's will also continue daily deliveries to all local businesses, residential, funerals and hospitals.

Conroy's will be open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wiki's Wine Dive, 11350 Ming Ave. #260, and Grill announced today they will be offering curbside pickup due to growing coronavirus concerns.

Subway announced it is open for takeout, as well as delivery.

The sandwich company is remaining open and those looking to order ahead can do so through its mobile app and website.


Walmart announced Saturday that all of its 24-hour stores currently operating 24-hours will be moving to a 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. operating schedule until further notice.

It added that it would host an hour-long "senior shopping event" every Tuesday for customers aged 60 and older from March 24 to April 28.

This event would start one hour before the store opens to the public, and includes its pharmacies and vision centers.


Whole Foods said it is changing its store hours to open one hours early for customers who are 60 and older to begin shopping.

The stores will also be closing two hours early to give team members time to restock shelves and sanitize in preparation for the next day.


Janitzio Restaurant in Delano said it is working on changing this menu options to make pickup and delivery options easier during the coronavirus pandemic.

At this time, Janitzio said it is suspending all dine-in options. " It’s unfortunate that we had to come to this but it’s for the best for our employees and the safety of our clients," said restaurant officials.

The restaurant is also extending its hours to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Janitzio is located at 1637 Cecil Avenue in Delano.


Starting Wednesday all Sequoia Sandwich Company locations will be open regular hours for take-out and delivery only.

The company also implemented curb-side pick up at the Bakersfield Rosedale and Seven Oaks locations at Clovis and Luis Obispo deli.

Online ordering is still available.

Downtown Bakerfield's QwikCafe remains open with not change.


All Flame Broiler locations are open for regular business hours for take out and phone orders. They are in the process of implementing curbside pickup.

Outback Steakhouse, Stockdale Hwy

Outback Steakhouse is offering delivery and curbside pickup. In addition, the restaurant is now honoring it's early bird specials for both take-out and delivery from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The restaurant, located at 5051 Stockdale Hwy, is open 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from Noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The King Ice Cream on Ming Avenue said will continue with its open doors to continue serving the Bakersfield community and its surroundings.

"Of course for everyone's safety we will follow very close to the recommendations of the health authorities.
Our hours of operations may be reduced a little, until the situation in our country stabilizes.
To facilitate our service we will be receiving orders by phone, so we could serve you with faster, you will continue to enjoy all our tasty snacks."

Tejon Outlets

The Outlets at Tejon announced that starting Thursday it is shortening its hours to 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Dollar General officials say their stores’ first hour of business will be dedicated for senior shoppers. Additionally, company officials say all stores plan to close one hour earlier than current close times to allow employees to clean and re-stock store shelves, as well as for their health and well-being.


Tahoe Joe's Famous Steakhouse is open and offering curbside pickup.

The restaurant, located at 9000 Ming Avenue, said it has its full menu available for to-go and curbside. It also confirmed to 23ABC that it is currently working on offering free delivery during this time.

Tahoe Joe's also said that it is offering specials at this time, live buy one adult entree get a complimentary kids entree. " We know as parents, it is challenging enough to find proper childcare, time for learning, ability to cook, etc. so us at Tahoe Joe's wanting to lend a helping hand in some way."


Wool Growers basque restaurant announced it is offering curbside service.

The restaurant said it is practicing social distancing today, so the dining room will be at 50% occupancy.

Sondor, located on 9500 Brimhall Road, announced it is open and providing curbside service.

The restaurant said it is reducing hours through March 22.

Dagny's Coffee Company, located on the corner of 20th and Eye streets, is staying open and providing updates via Instagram and Facebook.

The coffee company has adjusted some of its practices to maintain a safe and germ-free environment, such as:

  • single-use creamers and sugars
  • no outside cops or tumblers
  • all surfaces are sanitized hourly
  • electronic payment is encouraged
  • employees and guests are ask to stay home if they are feeling sick

Dot x Ott is offering delivery services, curbside pickup. family-styled meals and more.

The farm-to-table restaurant and market is located on 930 18th Street in Downtown Bakersfield.

Locale Farm to Table, located on 1723 18th Street in Downtown Bakersfield, is open and offering gluten-free options.

Locale is offering lasagna trays online for pickup. Trays can be frozen and serve up to 12.

Prime Time BBQ & Butcher Shop, located on 1927 20th Street, said it is fulling stocked at its meat counter with no purchase limit and curbside pickup.

Prime Time is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Rio Acai Bowls is continuing to stay open and now offers curbside pickup for online orders.

It is also offering $1 off any-sized Rio bowl and one free topping.

Rio has multiple locations in Bakersfield and hours vary depending on the locations.


Modern Grub, located 1100 Calloway Dr Unit 100, is offering delivery and pre-order services.

Temblor Brewing Co. is still open, but have adjusted to Governor Gavin Newsom's recommendations.

The company is now offering food and beer delivery, free for orders more that $50. Delivery is available for a minimum $20 order.

Temblor is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers curbside pickup.

Dionysus Brewing Company is offering delivery to residents within a 15-mile radius of its location at 6201 Schirra Ct.

Residents cam place orders for delivery of pickup online.

Dionysus is open Monday through Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday from Noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday from Noon to 8 p.m.


La Costa Mariscos Bakersfield announced it is starting curbside service for residents.

Locals can also order delivery through UberEats.

Hon Ramen, located on 1419 19 Street in Downtown Bakersfield, is remaining open but have adjusted its hours.

From now through March 31, the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It is also offering pickup order and deliver through UberEats. Orders can be placed over the phone by calling (661) 558-4000.


Salty's BBQ & Catering is offering drive-thru service at its Southwest location and delivery through UberEats or Restaurant Runner.


Camino Real Kitchen & Tequila is open and offering curbside or delivery services.

The restaurant is offering its Camino Box for $60. Each box serves 8-10 people includes rice, beans, chips & salsas: Taco Box, Chipe Verde Box, fajita Box or sampler box (sampler box is served with chorizo dip and queso dip instead of rice and beans)

Home Bakersfield is offering delivery service for its to-go meal packages.

Orders can be placed by calling (661) and 843-7338, and Home is giving priority delivery to Senior citizens, people with children aged 5 or younger, and the disabled.



Angry Barnyard BBQ is offering family-style to-go meals and curbside service.

The restaurant, located at 916 18th Street, is offering one menu everyday that will feed a family of four to six.

Orders must be placed by Noon and pickup if from 3 to 6 p.m.

The Hen's Roost in Downtown Bakersfield will dedicate 45 minutes to seniors allowing them to shop without crowds.

From 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. The Hen's Roost will open its doors only for seniors.

Hen's Roost is located on 1916 G Street and is offering curbside pickup. Orders can be called in at (661) 864-704.



The Crest Bar and Grill, located on 5025 Wible Road, is offering curbside pickup.

The restaurant is operating at half capacity per the governor's recommendation.

Don't want to forget about your pets!

Village Pet Market and Roundup Feed are both offering delivery and curbside pickup for orders.

Orders can be placed at (661) 396-7387 (Village Pet Market) and at (661) 327-1301 (Roundup Feed).


Vallarta Supermarkets announced Monday it will be opening one hour early only for shoppers 65 years old and older starting Wednesday. They will have one hour to shop starting at 7 to 8 a.m. before the stores open to the general public.

This change is also open to women who are pregnant and those with disabilities.

The change goes into effect across its 50 locations in California, including the markets here in Bakersfield.

The move comes as local, state and national leaders have urged shoppers not to panic buy.


Self Serve Pet Spa is open and stocked with pet food (kibble, cans, freeze dried and raw) at all three of their locations. They are allowing one customer into the store at a time.
