DELANO, Calif. — More than 4,000 prepared meals were distributed to farm worker families suffering during the COVID-19 crisis on Wednesday.
The United Farm Workers Foundation said the effort was made possible by the World Central Kitchen, in coordination with the United Farm Workers and Cesar Chavez Foundation.
The meals, handed to motorists as their cars drive by at the farm worker movement's Forty Acres property, were prepared by local restaurants.
The UFW said it plans to provide prepared meals at least once a week in Delano and in each of the farm worker communities served through this partnership.
Since its founding, World Central Kitchen has served more than 17 million meals to those impacted by natural disasters and other crises around the world, including the coronavirus global pandemic, according to the UFW.
