Crowds storm the beaches of Huntington Friday, following Governor Gavin Newsom's announcement to close Orange County beaches starting May 1st. Around 3,000 Surf City residents spent their day vocalizing their opinion.
Don Wagner, with the Orange County Board of Supervisors, tells 23ABC that the Huntington Beach City Council held an emergency meeting on Thursday night. He says the city is in the process of taking legal action against the Governor.
Governor Newsom announced last Thursday that only Orange County beaches would shut down, after pictures surfaced online of large crowds. Wagner with the Board of Supervisors, says Newsom misinterpreted those photos and did not take into consideration the true statistics. He says, "when you look at totality, the total space, and the hours. 40,000 people over about 7 miles worth of beach is really not that crowded."
