BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Southern California Gas Company announced it has suspended service disconnects for customers who are having a hard time paying their bills and are offering payment extensions.

This policy will remain in effect until further notice, according to SoCalGas. Customers are being told to disregard any automated 48 hour shut off notice.

As for small business customers, SoCalGas is waiving late payment fees.

The company announced Thursday that as the COVID-19 situation continues to develop, it is doing everything to enhance the safety and well-being of its customers and employees.

As for bill payments the company said branch offices will continue to operate regular business hours until further notice and are being cleaned daily. The company is also providing a list of alternative payment options.

SoCalGas also said it is aware that scammers are taking advantage of the COVID-19 outbreak to send phishing emails, texts and social media posts.

"Please note that SoCalGas has suspended service disconnections to customers who have a hard time paying their bills and does not call to demand payment."
