BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Dorothy Peterson is a Northwest Bakersfield resident who is celebrating her 102 birthday on Sunday.
"It has been a wonderful day," Peterson said.
Ordinarily, she would be cherished in person but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her loved ones and friends found different ways to celebrate her.
Her caretakers from Around the Clock Care decided to surprise her with a birthday parade from neighbors, friends, and family.
A huge Happy Birthday sign hangs on her garage door covered with balloons and cards.
The group took it a step further by allowing visitors to greet Dorothy through her bedroom window.
"Thank you, it made a beautiful day one of the best days ever," Peterson said.
One of her caretaker's shares Dorothy had several cakes and party favors for the visitors.
"She’s a very bright and talented lady, and I have a lot to learn from her," said Luz Rios, caretaker. "I admire her sharp memory and I think it's because she does a lot of puzzles."
When asked how Miss Dorthy feels to live over a century, this is what she had to say.
"It feels good. I don’t know why I lasted so long, but it feels good," Peterson said. "I am happy to reach this age."
