New estimates show just how many lives wearing a mask could save. The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation created a model that projects the number of United States deaths between now and October 1st.

As things stand researchers predict we'll hit 175,000 deaths by then. But if everyone in the country wore a mask that number drops by 25,000.

Basically the more people an infected person is around the more deaths wearing a mask can prevent.

The institute often advises the White House and local governments and is submitting the model for peer review.
