While tattoo parlors are opening back up in other states, our local Public health says they are to remain closed until further notice.
23ABC spoke with two local tattoo shops today. One business owner says he may get back to work soon, despite the stay at home order. While another says he is waiting on the state to give him the clearance.
Marc Deleon with Mad Dog Tattoo says, “if the Governor says you cant be open, then you cant be open no matter what guidelines you are following.” He adds, “I don’t want to lose my license and risk being closed permanently.” Although he’s struggling financially, Deleon says permanently closing the shop is not an option. “I will move out of my house and live in the basement if I have to,” he says.
But another tattoo artist close by tells 23ABC he will start taking appointments as of May 1st. As for when the actual tattooing will begin? He writes to one of our reporters on Instagram saying, “depends on how much me and my circle want to say *expletives* to the powers that be.” He goes on to write, “there is no reason why we shouldn’t be working during this whole pandemic. Me as a licensed professional who is trained in pathogens both surface, air, body fluids etc. Really pissed”
