SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Lamont native Madeline Villa is doing what she can to assist in the battle against COVID-19. Right now she is serving as a Logistics Specialist Seaman aboard the USNS Mercy in San Diego.

Logistics Specialist Seaman Madeline Villa is shown in the photo above working in the mailroom aboard the hospital ship.

Mercy was deployed in support of the nation's COVID-19 response efforts, and serves as a referral hospital for non-COVID-19 patients currently admitted to shore-based hospitals. This allows shore base hospitals to focus their efforts on COVID-19 cases.
