The latest number of COVID-19 cases in Kern County has pushed past the 19,000 mark as some national outlets are calling Bakersfield a "hotspot" for the coronavirus.

Another 924 positive tests released Friday morning pushing the total in the county to more than 19,300. That includes 12,256 in the 18-to-49 age group.

However, the ethnicity of those infected continues to become more vague with 55% of people listed with the virus are listed as "unknown" race.

Another death reported this morning raises the number to 140 with another 234 people hospitalized.

Also, nearly 5,600 people have recovered with the number isolating at home right now up to 13,368. More than 105,000 or 84-percent of all tests have come back negative.
