BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County District Attorney's Office has investigated more than 60 complaints of price gouging, according to officials.
The biggest issue that officials were dealing with over the past few weeks was the difference between "price gouging" and "profiteering."
Until Saturday, profiteering was technically legal in California.
By executive order, the Governor’s office has responded to the profiteering problem by passing an executive order that took effect April 4 to make unconscionable profiteering illegal.
