Governor Gavin Newsom decided to provide a Facebook Live COVID-19 update directly to Californians Monday evening.

Newsom discussed and executive order issued today that allows local governments to halt evictions for rental properties, commercial establishments and homeowners, slows down the process of foreclosures and protects Californians from having their utilities cutoff due to COVID-19.

However, renters are still obligated to pay rent.

The order asks the California Public Utilities Commission to monitor measures undertaken by public and private utility providers to implement customer service protections for critical utilities, including electric, gas, water, internet, landline telephone, and cell phone service on a weekly basis.

This order stays in effect through May 31.
