Emergency Order in Los Angeles Requires Everyone to Wear Face Coverings

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has issued an emergency order requiring essential workers and customers in the city to wear face coverings.

The order took effect at midnight Friday.

The executive order will require employees at grocery stores, hotels, and restaurants to wear cloth face coverings over their mouths and noses while at work. Employers will be required to provide the masks or reimburse employees who buy their own.

Customers will also be required to wear face coverings while at the business. The city could start issuing tickets for those who do not comply with the order.

According to the latest data from public health officials, Los Angeles County has seen a total of 7,955 positive cases of COVID-19, and 223 people in the county have died due to the virus.
