BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — As coronavirus testing continues at Accelerated Urgent Care, officials say results are now coming quicker. Results were taking as long as 7 to 10 days at peak times last week.

AUC owner Dr. Dan Erickson says it's now taking 3 days, and they'll soon be partnering with another testing company that promises returns in 2 days. Erickson says over half of Kern County's 900-plus pending test results came from his facilities. All AUC facilities are capable of testing for COVID, but officials encourage people to go to the 212 Coffee Road location because it is specially set up for it.

When the Coffee Road location opened for testing during the week of March 18, about 150 people were lining up to get tested every day. Lately that number has dropped to around 80.

The tests are free for those with insurance and cost $55 without. That fee is charged by Quest Diagnostics, not AUC.

AUC officials say they will soon start working with a second diagnostics lab that is guaranteeing a 2-day turnaround. Those test will be will also be free with insurance, but $75 without.

Coronavirus testing is available at the Coffee Road location from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.
