The City of Arvin has proclaimed local emergency amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Arvin City Council held a special meeting Tuesday night to ratify the proclamation.
The city said despite this action it continues to reassure the community that there is no reason to panic. "[The] proclamation of a local emergency may help the City qualify for reimbursement of costs associated with efforts to prevent the disease in the community, as well as plans and actions that may become necessary to respond to and prevent the spread of an outbreak should one occur," said the city in a release.
The city said it has a team working to evaluate measures that may need to be taken to reduce exposure. It is basing its efforts on guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The city is also expanding staffing and resources dedicated to sanitation and cleaning of city facilities.
