SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KERO) — Health insurance company Blue Shield of California is now overseeing the distribution of vaccine doses.
According to the Associated Press, the contract between the state's health agency and the insurance giant is still being finalized but its task is to "create - contract with - and manage a statewide vaccine administration network."
It will also allocate doses directly to county public health departments - hospitals and pharmacies.
This is part of the more streamlined vaccination system Governor Gavin Newsom announced Monday but refrained from directly mentioning it.
