BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Quarantining and social distancing was not going to stop 95-year-old Vivian Gay from getting a birthday celebration.
On Thursday, Gay's daughter Cynthia went to The Orchards nursing home to make sure her mom could party it up.
Cynthia, from outside her room and through a window, and nurses sang "Happy Birthday" to Vivian. Later, a truly special surprise happened.
Cynthia works for California Highway Patrol and her mother knows officer Robert Rodriguez. From her phone, she showed Vivian a video of Robert singing and wishing her a happy birthday as well.
After the video, Vivian said, "Tell Robert I love him too."
“That meant a lot to her," Cynthia said. "Because it lets her know that she’s not forgotten and that people are still thinking about her and he really didn’t have to do that. He did that out of the kindness of his heart. Just something extra. I really appreciate it and so does my mom.”
