ARVIN, Calif. — The city of Arvin is moving forward with a plan that will require many people in the rural community to begin wearing face masks or face punishment.

Council members voted 4-to-1 on Tuesday to require all city employees, along with local businesses, to wear face masks while on the job.

Mayor Jose Gurrola said the Arvin police department will enforce the ordinance and anyone not complying could be cited.

The council is also reportedly working on an educational campaign about the new requirement.

If the number of new cases doesn't decrease, Gurrola said they could make face masks mandatory for everyone in the city when venturing out in public.
