TEHACHAPI, Calif. — Walmart is looking for 200 new employees in Tehachapi. The jobs are a part of the new Walmart store opening at the end of the summer. Those 200 jobs will make the big-box store the second largest employer in Tehachapi. And the hiring team says the hunt for those employees is under way.

Edward Weston, lives in the community of Golden Hills near Tehachapi. He said he's excited Walmart is moving in. “I expect the community to be growing as a result of Walmart coming in. I think we’re going to see more people moving into the area. More houses being built, more apartments. So I think it’s going to make a pretty significant difference here in Tehachapi.”

Amy Garcia the store manager of the new Tehachapi Walmart store and in charge of finding and hiring those 200 new employees. The big box store set up her hiring office across the street from where the new store is being built on Tehachapi Blvd. She said her office is open and looking.

“We’ve actually put out a few fliers out to our career centers," said Garcia. "Tehachapi has been great helping us out with putting out at the high schools and throughout the city.”

Garcia said they need every position for their new Walmart. From entry-level all the way up to management positions. Including greeters -- cashiers -- stackers – and both part-time to full-time workers. Garcia said despite the range of job openings there’s one common characteristic.

“Customer service, absolutely customer service is what our number one what we’re looking for," said Garcia. "Anyone that’s out there that wants to provide that to the company is what we’re looking for.”

Garcia said the best way to apply for one of those jobs is to do so online at Careers.Walmart.com. And if anyone has any questions about the application process her office is open and she’ll help point you in the right direction.
