BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Ruben and Frances Rosales took over Happy Jacks nearly 45 years ago.
With the exception of the big dust storm of the 70's, they've always been open and serving up their sweet comfort creations.
This iconic eatery, located at the corner of 20th and G streets in Downtown Bakersfield, is known for its intimate and welcoming environment, with regulars always sitting in the same counter seat.
During the pandemic, the conversation and laughter inside is replaced by caution tape, but there's no removing the smile.
Ruben still does all the prep work including their signature pies, while Frances keeps everything running.
It's a job they don't plan to give up anytime soon as long as customers keep coming in.
