Guilt-free donuts with Sweet Beast Bakery

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In this week's Foodie Friday, we spoke with Sweet Beast Bakery manager Ashley about their guilt-free donuts.

"They are guilt-free because we are a sugar-free bakery. All our bases [are] completely sugar free. They have about six grams of protein in them and anywhere from 20 to 25 grams of carbs for the entire donut," said Ashley. "We have vegan donuts with an almond-flour base and you're looking at about ten net carbs, and vegan is no egg and it's made with a vegan protein."

Ashley says their owner was inspired to create their donuts by a client.

"She was a trainer and her father was diabetic. And so she was tired of depriving her clients of sweets. You don't need to be a part of the fitness industry. You can be just health conscious, enjoy a sweet and not feel so guilty about it," said Ashley.

If you're feeling skeptical, Ashley says to give them a try first.

"Our sweetener is a blend so you don't get that weird Splenda aftertaste," she said.

Sweet Beast Bakery is relatively new to Bakersfield, and Ashley said they appreciate the community's support.

"We opened in the middle of the pandemic and we've had a lot of love and support," she said. "It's been awesome. We're very blessed in that aspect."
