Over 40 Wasco High seniors to graduate with associates degree this year

WASCO, Calif. — The Wasco Union High School District is celebrating a historic achievement as 45 seniors from Wasco High will graduate with a high school diploma and an Associates of Science Degree from Bakersfield College.

School officials say these 2019 graduates earned their degrees through the the districts Wonderful Agriculture Career Prep Program which is a a partnership with Bakersfield College and the Wonderful Company. This is the first cohort in the partnership with BC to graduate, according to the district.

The school also says 240 students are currently enrolled in in the program while 39 of the graduates plan to continue their education at universities, including UC Davis, UC Merced, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly and Fresno State. Students will also receive scholarships from the Wonderful Company totaling over $180,000.

The program started four years ago utilizing teachers from both Bakersfield College and Wasco High.

The graduation is scheduled for Thursday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Wasco Union High School football field located on 1900 7th Street.
