BAKERSFIELD, — Kern High School District has suggested that KHSD staff offer alternatives to a live graduation ceremony.

It has been decided that the board will reconvene at a later date to decide on what can be done to give graduates the ceremony they deserve.

Schools have been closed since March which left a lot of seniors uneasy due to the uncertainty of whether or not they'd have a graduation ceremony.

In a virtual graduation, it is proposed a celebration video students are encouraged to participate in, however, students aren't interested and a video and virtual graduation at this caliber will not be ready by the end of May.

The board will make preparations for when things change in regard to the pandemic.

The Governer had announced today the implementation of phase two in his response to COVID-19, this will still not allow large gatherings thus preventing a live graduation.

They are planning to hold a special meeting this month, but a date has yet to be announced.
